Early Preschool

2-1/2 – 3 Years

Hilmon School would like to welcome you to our Early Preschool Program in which the ages are 2 ½ Years to 3 Years. Our Early Preschool Program is designed to prepare your child for the preschool classroom. In this classroom the children will focus on recognizing colors and shapes. We will continue working on number and letter recognition by engaging the children in age appropriate learning activities. In this classroom there are several teacher directed activities as well as centers in the classroom designed to enhance each child’s learning on an individual basis. Some of the many teacher facilitated activities will include group time, art, science, and more.

The Early Preschool classroom is designed with the child in mind. Our Early Preschool classroom places a large emphasis on curriculum, as well as potty training. Our staff will implement lesson plans that will focus on Language Arts, Math/Cognitive, Science/Sensory, Art, Motor Skills, and Music and Movement. Teachers will begin largely focusing on the children’s fine motor skills. The children will learn the correct way to hold and handle a pencil, use scissors to cut a straight line, and tracing letters and numbers.

The children will be exploring the outside world through outside play time, both in the morning and afternoon (weather permitting). The children will enjoy a wonderful playground with age appropriate equipment where they can climb, run, and ride bikes. Our staff will work with your child’s individual needs to become fully potty trained if they are not already. We have developed a system that is sure to make potty training a rewarding experience for both parent and child.

Areas of Development

Language Arts

Our teachers will develop language arts by encouraging the children to participate in reading activities during circle time and at the library they may browse during free play. The children will begin to understand the correct way to hold a book, reading from left to right, and that print has meaning.

Math/Cognitive

Our Early Preschoolers will continue to work on number recognition along with mastering the recognition of all shapes and colors. The children will work on their fine motor skills by tracing numbers 0-10.

Science/Sensory

We have created a science center within the classroom that will allow the children to explore on an individual level during free play. Our teachers will also create a curriculum that will immerse each child into the world of science and discovery though different activities and experiments.

Art

An art center has been established within the classroom to allow children to explore their creative side using crayons, markers, paint, glue, and much, much more. Our teachers will develop several art activities per week.

Motor Skills

This classroom will not only focus on the children’s gross motor skills but also strengthen their fine motor skills teachers will work with the children on holding a pencil correctly, tracing numbers and letters. They will develop their gross motor skills by using our spacious outdoor play area that is designed with Early Preschoolers in mind.

Music and Movement

Each classroom has a music center that will increase their knowledge of instruments and their sounds. The children will use these instruments to enhance their favorite songs. The children will also learn more songs and finger plays during circle time.
